Darjeeling police to form u-12 football team, training in Germany

DARJEELING: Darjeeling police is all set to form an under-12 football team which will get part of their three-month training in Germany in the coming days.   
This was announced today in a programme here at Chowrasta where the Darjeeling police felicitated Manish Subba of Pulbazar, Bijanbari who will be the first from here to undertake a seven-day training with a popular German football club, Eintracht Frankfurt, through an initiative taken by the Darjeeling police in collaboration with the Kolkata-based Football Next Foundation (FNF).
Darjeeling SP Akilesh Chatturvedi said, “On December 7 we will start an under-12 football tournament for the districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong. From this tournament 20 players will be chosen and a team will be formed which will undertake a three month training with parts of it being held in Germany. If any of them performs well we hope that they will be able to play in the German   league or English league to take the name of Darjeeling forward.”
According to SP, the football tournament will be held in different grounds of the hills with the inauguration being done at Dali ground. The final of the tournament is yet to be fixed with Chatturvedi maintaining that it will depend on the number of teams that will participate in it.
FNF founder Kaushik Moulik said, “We feel that whoever performs well during training in Germany could get a chance to play in European leagues as there is a lot of potential here.”
Mouliick informed that on the inaugural day of the tournament, Eintracht director Marcus Widner will also be present here.
