State prepares for Jorethang Maghey Mela 2019

GANGTOK (IPR): A State-level coordination meeting was held on upcoming event of Jorethang Maghey Sakranti Mela Celebration 2019 at the conference hall of the chief secretary, Manan Kendra, today.
Health minister A.K. Ghatani, the chief patron of the organising committee, chaired the meeting in special presence Nayabazar Jorethang Municipal Council chairman Tika Gurung and chief secretary A.K. Shrivastava.
The meeting was also attended by principal secretaries, secretaries, heads of the department, IG (Law and Order), officials and representatives from various departments and the executive members of Jorethang Maghey Sakranti Mela organizing committee 2019.
The three-day Mela is scheduled to be inaugurated on January 14, 2019 at Jorethang by Chief Minister Pawan Chamling.
At the outset, the chief secretary briefed on the overview of Jorethang Mela and marked the event as a historic and biggest fair celebrated annually in the State of Sikkim. While interacting with the participants, the chief secretary directed various departments to take up assigned responsibilities sincerely and seriously.
The tentative programmes designed by the celebration committee encompassing construction of stage and side pandals, gates, traditional food stalls, government exhibition stalls, installation of LED screens, cultural extravaganza, arrangements of transportation, accommodation, lunch/refreshments, rural and adventure Sports, puja ceremony, maintenance of law and order etc. were discussed thoroughly with the respective line departments for further necessary action.
Addressing the meeting, chief patron Ghatani extended his gratitude and congratulations to the chief secretary and various departments for their supports in accomplishment of mela in previous occasions and anticipated same cooperation and contributions to make the Jorethang Maghey Mela 2019 a grand success.
He instructed all the departments to install stalls displaying people-centric schemes and programmes implemented under various departments along with the achievements of the State government acquired during the last 25 years of good governance. He urged Commerce & Industries department to coordinate with all the nationalized banks to bring up their schemes in public domain through exhibitions and display during the entire mela celebration. So that the public will be informed about the various newly launched programmes and schemes like Krishi pension to farmers, Start-up Schemes, Mukhya Mantri Jiwan Rakhsa Kosh, HPV vaccination, initiatives to eliminate Tuberculosis, etc., he added
Programmes like SARAS Mela, Job Fair, AROGYA Mela, Orange festival, traditional and cultural events, sports like rock climbing, Sikkim Run will be the major components to be organized in Jorethang Mela celebration. Self Help Groups and youths have to be involved and benefited on priority, he added.
Ghatani urged committee members to inform concerned authority/district collector about the update of progress and preparedness of the assigned works.
The chief secretary, in his concluding remarks, instructed all departments to depute Nodal Officer and to coordinate with the Information & Public Relations Department. He was professed with the proposal to organize Orange festival as a component of Jorethang mela and urged various departments along with Milk Union, NERLP to showcase their activities.
The chief secretary directed to apply enough precautionary measures in organizing sports events like rock climbing. He also stressed to ensure proper arrangements for waste management during the mela celebration. Further, he instructed concerned department to take up responsibility on Illumination of Akar Bridge, opening of FRO at Rambang Check-post (w), cultural events, puja ceremony, maintenance of law and order etc.
RMDD secretary C.S. Rao informed that the department has invited all the States and union territories for their participation in SARAS Mela. This year, pandal of SARAS Mela will be constructed by the committee and fund will be transferred to committee`s account for the said purpose.
Jorethang SDM Tshering Bhutia and SE Power (Jorethang Circle) Jigmee Namgyal informed the house about the planning and tentative programmes mapped out by the committee.
During the meeting, all the departments came out with their suggestions and inputs.
The meeting was concluded with the thanks note proposed by Information & Public Relations secretary Dr. Sherap Shenga. She urged all departments for full cooperation and coordination to make the mela a grand success.
