SE Report
The People’s Studio at ARTEM here is scheduled to showcase the works of Sewon Rai, an art practitioner from Gangtok.
The opening of the art exhibition titled ‘Death, Longing, Memory’ by Sewon Rai would be held on February 11 after which the exhibit will be open for viewing till March 8, an ARTEM release informs.
Sewon’s paintings, drawings and inkjet prints curated for the exhibition speak to the viewer of human beings and their deleterious impact on nature. There is a tension between life and death and nature and destruction that is apparent in his works. His works are inspired by reflections on larger socio-political issues as well as very personal memories, said the organizers.
An alumnus of The Indian College of Arts and Draftsmanship, Kolkata and Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, Sewon has also been a scholar at the Lalit Kala National Research Scholarship, Kolkata, India (2017-2018).
The artist would also conduct a workshop on woodcut printmaking from February 15 to 17 at the studio. Interested individuals can contact at 9820791324.
The exhibition and the workshop is a part of The People’s Studio and ARTEM’s vision to showcase, exhibit art and artworks from the region and to create a culture and audience for art in the region, the release adds.
