Mr Sikkim contest
Wed, Apr 3, 2019

Sikkim State Body Building Association (SSBBA) is geared up to organise the 19th Mr Sikkim and 1st North East Men’s & Women’s Physique Championship at Manan Kendra, Gangtok on April 6. SSBBA is affiliated with Indian Body Building & Fitness Federation and Sikkim Olympic Association.
Mr Sikkim championship is organised every year by SSBBA with the aim of providing a platform for local bodybuilders. “It is an important event because we feel that the event will keep them busy and focused towards sports, and our body builders might get distracted towards drugs and other social evils. We also want to encourage our local youth towards body building,” expressed SSBBA president Arun Gurung.
Mr Sikkim will have four weight categories, viz. 55 kg, 60 kg, 65 kg and 70 kg. Each category will have top five contestants and the 20 shortlisted finalists will participate in the final pose-down scheduled to be held later in the afternoon. Among them, one will be declared as the ‘champion of the champions’ and 19th Mr Sikkim.
The North East Men’s & Women’s Physique Championship will include two categories among which the top five finalists will be shortlisted. One each from men’s and women’s category will be declared as ‘champion of the champions’. The expected participants are from Manipur, Assam, West Bengal, Darjeeling and Sikkim, informed Gurung.
The winners will get cash prizes along with trophies, medals and certificates. The winners will also be endorsed as brand ambassadors for a supplement company. Mr Sikkim, Mr Northeast and Miss Northeast will also get one-year free membership at Gold Gym, said SSBBA vice president Bikash Khawas.
The judges for the event are members from SSBBA and Mr Darjeeling Sukra Mani. Among other judges are social worker T. Lachungpa, State Sports secretary, SOA president, SOA general secretary, etc. The guest posers for the event are international body builder Suman Das (for Mr Sikkim) and Mr Asia runner up and Mr Darjeeling Rebesh Pradhan (for North East Men’s & Women’s Physique Championship), stated SSBBA organising secretary Suresh Chettri.
Arun Gurung said the event is being supported by the State Sports department and some like-minded people of the society. He thanked them for their support and also appealed the general public to come and support the local body builders in the main event. The event will act as refreshment from the present political scenario, he said.
The event will have on-the-spot registration. The registration fee is Rs. 1000 for Mr Sikkim and Rs. 2000 for North East Men’s & Women’s Physique Championship.
