South district records 80.24 percent voter turn-out

NAMCHI,(IPR): South district registered 80.24 percent voter turnout for voting for the eight Assembly constituencies and the lone Lok Sabha seat on Thursday.
As informed by South Returning Officer (RO) Ragul K, polling for the eight Assembly constituencies was successfully completed in the district wherein the total voter turnout was recorded as 80.24 percent comprising of 47,959 male and 46,376 female voters respectively.
As per the data, Tumin-Lingee constituency recorded the highest number of voters with 12,956 voters in the district.
The RO informed some minor errors were noticed in few polling stations concerning VVPATs but they were resolved in a time bound and effective manner by the election officials.     
In addition, the RO stated that there were no reports of untoward incidents or law and order situation from any of the 160 polling stations located in south district. The polling process in all polling stations in the district went by smoothly and security arrangements made by the district police were in place.
Similarly, various line departments stayed alert to provide essential service in and around the polling stations. It may be mentioned here that there were a total of 30 polling stations which were identified as critical.
The RO further informed that the polled EVMs and VVPATs were stored in the strong room under 24X7 CCTV surveillance with adequate security measures at Namchi senior secondary school in the presence of  general observer for Parliamentary constituency (South/West) Pankaj Agarwal, general observer for Assembly constituency Shrish Chandra Verma along with the election agents.
The first polling team to arrive in the control room after successfully conducting the polling from south district was the team stationed at Salleybong junior high school polling station under Namchi-Singhithang constituency while the last team to arrive at the control room was the polling team from Tumin secondary school under Tumin-Lingee constituency.
Similarly, the first women polling team to arrive was the team from Namchi senior secondary school followed by the polling team of New secondary school under Namchi-Singhithang constituency. The polling teams handed the polled EVMs and VVPATs along with other polling materials to the concerned officials in the control room at Namchi senior secondary school auditorium.
The polling station with the lowest number of voters in Sikkim falls under South District. The polling station is community hall at Pakzer under Poklok- Kamrang Assembly constituency with 175 voters. Similarly, the polling station with the highest number of voters in South district is Kewzing senior secondary school under Barfung Assembly constituency with a total of 1,273 voters.
