The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway toy train derailed at Dali, about 4 km away from here, as a private vehicle backing from a garage near the railway track hit the train’s steam engine.
The derailment further held up another toy train coming from Siliguri and another joy ride train coming back from Ghoom.
Passengers in these three trains had to make other arrangements to reach their respective destinations.
The incident took place at around 1.40 pm.
A total of 27 persons were taking a joy ride in the steam engine driven train. The derailment led to cancelling of other two joy rides by the DHR officials. The 120-odd passengers were given refund.
The DHR service from Darjeeling to Kurseong, which starts from 4.30 pm, was also cancelled.
