SKM president P.S. Golay arrived at Gangtok late evening hours of Friday, having travelled across south and west districts, thanking people along the route. He started early morning from his native village in Soreng and made halts at different locations to greet the people.
The major halt was at Namchi where Golay was warmly welcomed by the SKM workers and local public there. The winning SKM candidates from south and west districts were also at Namchi to meet the party president.
Together, the convoy led by Golay then moved towards Gangtok via Rangpo. They halted at different locations to meet the local party workers and public.
The winning SKM candidates from east and north districts are stationed at Gangtok.
After reaching the capital, Golay briefly met the hundreds of people who had gathered at Deorali to welcome him since morning.
In a brief interaction with media at Deorali, Golay said the Chief Ministerial candidate of the SKM will be decided by the SKM legislature party. The party legislature will decide who will be their leader and the Chief Minister, we will take a collective decision, he said.
After meeting the people at Deorali, Golay then held a meeting with the party functionaries and winning candidates at a hotel. The meeting was to prepare to call on Governor Ganga Prasad at Raj Bhawan on Saturday to lay claim on forming the new government in Sikkim.
It is learnt that the SKM legislature party would be meeting the Governor at 11.30 am on Saturday.
The SKM has won 17 seats out of 32 seats in the Assembly results declared on Thursday. It has given a simple majority to the Golay-led party to lay claim to form the government before the Governor.
The SDF party won 15 seats.
