GANGTOK,: Indra Hang Subba took oath as the Sikkim’s lone Lok Sabha MP in Nepali language today in the Parliament.
The Nepali language was recognised by the Constitution of India in the Eight Schedule of the Indian Constitution in August 1992.
The 30-year-old parliamentarian from Sikkim said his oath-taking in Nepali language was a tribute to former Member of Parliament from Sikkim Dil Kumari Bhandari, who played a major role in the inclusion of Nepali language in the 8th Schedule.
“I dedicate my oath swearing-in in Nepali language to our Former MP Smt Dil Kumari Bhandari and her colleagues in the parliament, and the people of Sikkim,” the Lok Sabha MP wrote on Facebook, hours after taking oath.
Subba said it was an honour for him to have taken oath as Sikkim MP in the Parliament in Nepali language and acknowledged that it would not have been possible if it was not for Mrs Bhandari and her team’s “sincere effort”.
“She (Dil Kumari Bhandari) and her colleagues had a vision to see future MPs taking oath in Nepali in a dignified and proud manner. That vision has become a reality today. I am immensely happy to become a part of the vision that was envisioned decades ago,” added Indra Hang.
Before heading to Parliament, Indra Hang sought blessings from his party leader and Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) at Sikkim House.
