Three feared dead as taxi plunges into Teesta

DARJEELING,: Two tourists and taxi driver have gone missing when their vehicle plunged off the road into river Teesta near Coronation Bridge along NH10.
The fateful Innova vehicle with a couple from Rajasthan on board fell at least 150 feet below the road and disappeared in the river Wednesday afternoon. The driver has been identified as Rakesh Rai of Bhanu Nagar area of Siliguri, who has also been missing along with the passengers.  
Eyewitnesses informed the Sevoke police who requisitioned the NDRF and rafting teams from Teesta and launched a search operation. Police sources said the vehicle was going to Sikkim from Siliguri when the mishap took place at around 1:45 pm.
"The police, NDRF, disaster management volunteers and people from the fire brigade and local rafters are conducting the search operation there. Some parts of the vehicle like the number plate, carrier, a luggage and the driver's wallet has been found till now,” said a police official who added that the driver's license, pan card, voter card and Aadhar card have been found. The identity of the two tourists has not yet been ascertained.
Similarly, in another incident, an Innova vehicle skidded off the road and fell about 80 ft below the road near Mam khola at Rangpo while plying from Gangtok and going towards Siliguri. The 6 tourists from Bangladesh escaped with minor injuries.
