Trinamool to revive support base in hills

After the party’s drubbing in the recent Parliamentary and Assembly by-elections, the hill unit of Trinamool Congress has now decided to revive its organisation in the hills by launching a fresh membership drive. The party would also try to identify where things went wrong and make amendment for which a core committee has been formed here.
Sharing details of the revival plan in the hills, TMC (Hills) Darjeeling branch president N.B.Khawas today informed that the 11-member core committee has been constituted to look after the policies of the party and development work to beundertaken in the region.
“We are looking into the mood of the people post-election and tryingto figure out where we went wrong and what needs to be done to make amends. The core committee will comprise of members from Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts,” said Khawas who has been nominated as the core committee spokesperson.
Khawas said instruction has come from Kolkata to start partyactivities in the Hills and revive its frontal organizations andcentral committee of the Hills.
“We have been working since the pastone month to strengthen our party base in the Hills. We have managedto make some headway, but a lot more needs to be done,” he said.
Commenting on the alliance they had with the GorkhaJanamukti Morcha (Binay camp) during the recent elections, Khawassaid, “Our relation with the Tamang faction of the Morcha will remain however we will work independently as political parties for the betterment of the people.”Apart from reviving its frontal organizations and membership drives, the party’s women, youth and student’s wings would also be reshuffled. Itsminority cell too will be revived and trade organization strengthened.
The party also plans to start membership drive from the unorganizedsectors to increase its base in the region, it was informed.
