Chief Minister P.S. Golay on Sunday reiterated that the SKM will sweep all the three constituencies during the upcoming by-elections. The SKM is assured of its victory in Gangtok and Rumtek-Martam constituencies while people in Poklok-Kamrang constituency are embracing SKM day by day leaving no doubt about SKM’s victory, he said.
The Chief Minister was addressing the district-level Teej festival celebration at Hee-Gaon, west district. It was organised by Paschim Zilla Khas Chettri Bahun Sangh.
Golay said the number of SKM MLAs will increase to 21 after the by-elections. He termed the opposition party’s claim of forming the government within six months as the ‘biggest joke in the political history of Sikkim’. History is witness to the fact that a party ousted from the government in Sikkim has never returned to power again, he said.
Golay, while commenting on the Teej festival, said the SKM government is committed to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of Sikkim by supporting every initiative based on culture and traditions of distinct communities of Sikkim.
Golay said people had no freedom during the previous SDF government. Community-based cultural festivals used to be a political platform in past, he said.
The Chief Minister said the SKM government will intensify the Swachh Abhiyan in the State. He said ministers and MLAs can adopt any school for working on sanitation and cleanliness. I have adopted Soreng senior secondary school in this regard, he said.
Earlier, MP Indra Hang Subba had placed development-based demands for Maneybung-Dentam constituency.
Though SKM lost in this constituency in the Assembly election, the SKM government will give importance for development of Maneybung-Dentam, Golay said. He said all the demands would be considered.
Golay said the famous Singshore Bridge on the way to Uttarey will be transformed into a glass bridge soon. The State government is planning for the needed renovation of the bridge, he said.
