GANGTOK
: The Sikkim Football Association (SFA) has decided to lodge a complaint with the AIFF alleging that its opponents fielded overage players during the u-14 sub junior national football championships held at Bokaro, Jharkhand.
Sikkim lost both its matches against Odisha and SAI while conceding 38 goals in the process. The disastrous campaign of Sikkim attracted strong criticism from football lovers here.
An emergency meeting was conducted by the SFA at the Football House here where the association deliberated on the State team’s dismal performance.
“A post mortem was done of the basis of the report obtained telephonically from the coach and the manager of the squad. As per the report, it was revealed that Sikkim team was very young, to be precise U-14 whereas it was found that the players of the opponent's team were much older than our boys (enclosed photo will substantiate our claim),” said SFA president MenlaEthenpa.
The meeting also took a decision to lodge complaint to AIFF as the responsibility to check the age limit lies with them. Despite of the fact that the hot climate condition prevailing at Bokaro was undoubtedly against our boys but still played their game as per their age, said the SFA.
Though Sikkim's team did not qualified for the next round but four of our boys were short-listed for the national camp under the prescribed age group, said Ethenpa.
