GANGTOK: Rinpoche Dawa Sangpo Dorjee, one of the claimants as the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa has stated that the Sikkim visit of Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorje would be a great loss for the State. Announcing to hold a protest during Orgyen Trinley’s visit, Dawa Sangpo today said he and his supporters would march in capital wearing black bands.
The 41-year-old Lama, further reiterated that he would not allow another claimed to enter the Rumtek Dharma Chakra centre until the real Karmapa incarnation is identified. Stating that recognition of the real 17th Karmapa is vital, Dawa Sangpo once again dared Orgyen Trinley to sit for both scientific and traditional tests if he considers himself as the real Karmapa. “If I fail in the said tests then I am ready to bow down before him and accept him as the real Karmapa,” he remarked during a press conference.
Dawa Sangpo also criticised Sangha MLA Sonam Lama for taking side of Orgyen Trinley saying he politicised the Karmapa issues by prompting the monks to sit on a relay hunger strike.  “If the State government does not take any step then we will give an ultimatum of 45 days and will make our third attempt to entre Rumtek, the seat of Karmapa,” he said.
Wangdi Tshering Lama of the Sikkim Karmapa Committee said the demand for recognition of the real Karmapa has long been unheard by the Centre and State governments and other organisations for being a minority Buddhist community. He said the State government should impartially listen to both parties and take decision in favour of the wellbeing of the world.
