GANGTOK,: The Citizen Action Party (CAP) Sikkim is now officially a
registered political party after receiving an endorsement from the Election
Commission of India (ECI).
Addressing
a media conference here on Wednesday, CAP Sikkim president LP Kafley said the
party applied for registration on February 21 earlier this year. After passing
through all the scrutiny and hearings, the ECI has facilitated registration of
Citizen Action Party – Sikkim on December 1, he said.
CAP Sikkim
was launched at Melli by party’s chief coordinator Ganesh Rai earlier this year
on January 26 with a call for reforms in Sikkim.
Kafley
congratulated the CAP Sikkim workers for the ECI registration. He also thanked
the State officials for timely verification of documents to be submitted for
ECI registration.
“There
were numerous hurdles faced by the party during the registration process. Our
political rivals had filed an FIR against our chief coordinator and had sent
the FIR copy to the ECI to sabotage our registration. A letter was also written
to the ECI for not allowing our party to get registered. However, we had faith
in the Constitution of India which eventually led to our party’s registration,”
said the CAP Sikkim president.
On the
occasion, Kafley announced that the CAP Sikkim would be contesting in all the
32 Assembly seats without going into coalition with any other political party.
“There are
numerous talks going around that CAP Sikkim is going for a coalition but we
declare that in the upcoming 2024 election, we will contest in all the 32
Assembly seats. Our party is a party of the people and we are here to bring
positive reforms through good governance. Our target is to make Sikkim a
debt-free State within 10 years and to implement such policies to address the
unemployment and other issues of Sikkim,” he said.
The CAP
Sikkim president shared that the party is also working on its official symbol.
As per our party’s constitution, CAP Sikkim is flagless and during the
election, we may use a plain cloth as our symbol, he said.
Kafely
informed that the CAP Sikkim is soon opening its party office in Geyzing
besides intensifying its activities across the State.
