Dilli Raman Regmi International Peace Award for Chamling

GANGTOK,: Former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling was on Wednesday honoured with the prestigious Dr. Dilli Raman Regmi International Peace Award at Nepal Pragya Pratisthan, Kathmandu.

A SDF release informs that Nepal Education minister Devendra Poudyal was the chief guest for the award function organised by Dilli Raman Regmi Foundation.

The Education minister of Nepal government presented a Buddha statue, shawl and citation to the former Chief Minister of Sikkim.

Chamling was selected for the award for his remarkable contribution for promoting peace and harmony through Nepali language, literature and culture, the release mentions.

Dilli Raman Regmi was a renowned scholar, historian and an iconic politician of Nepal. He had also served as Nepal’s education and foreign minister.

The Dilli Raman Regmi Peace Award is presented annually for past two decades.

In his address, Chamling thanked the organizing committee for the prestigious award and expressed that language and culture binds the people no matter where they are staying. He highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting their language and culture by the Nepali-speaking community. In the name of modernism, we are neglecting our language and culture and everyone must be concerned on this, he said.

Chamling further shared that in present times, the dimension of exploitation has changed with Western capitalism making the people consumers of every possible product and service. In this context, he highlighted the importance of organic farming initiated by Sikkim and appealed Nepal to adopt similar farming practice.
