GANGTOK,: The newly elected executive council of the Joint Action Council
(JAC) Sikkim on Sunday felicitated the previous executive body during a
programme here.
Those
from the previous executive body felicitated by the JAC were former president
Santa Pradhan, former general secretary Keshav Sapkota, former executives, and
former chief advisors Tseten Tashi Bhutia and Bharat Basnet.
Recently,
the JAC had appointed a new executive council with five convenors Deepak
Tewari, SG Bhutia, IK Chettri, Ranjana Gurung and Santosh Gautam besides
general secretaries Dilu Sharma and Samso Subba. The new council honoured the
outgoing executives with an appreciation letter in acknowledgement of their
selfless service to Sikkim and the organisation.
Addressing
the event, outgoing JAC general secretary Keshav Sapkota expressed his
happiness on a new, energetic and young team taking over the leadership of the
organisation. The new JAC team will definitely stand firmly for Sikkim and
Sikkimese on the issues which concern our State and people, he said.
Samso
Subba, the new JAC general secretary, said the new executive team will strive
to serve Sikkim and Sikkimese to the best of their abilities.
JAC
convenor Deepak Tewari, in his address, shared that the JAC Sikkim was born as
a natural response following the Supreme Court judgment earlier this year which
affected the entire Sikkimese. “The agenda of this council is to keep Sikkim
and Sikkimese united in all aspects. The other agenda is ‘Sikkim first’ wherein
the interest, security and safety of all including our natural resources is
given foremost priority,” he said.
The
convenor added that JAC is a non-political organisation of Sikkimese. Being the
voice of the Sikkimese, we feel that the political parties here must consider
the issues being raised by the JAC, he said.
At
the programme, it was announced that soon JAC Sikkim will form district
councils in all the six districts of the State.
