GANGTOK, : In a shocking case, a 14-year-old girl
in Namthang area of Namchi district was allegedly molested by her father for at
least a year.
According to police, the victim mustered
the courage to report the heinous crime to the police, detailing the horrific
experiences she endured at the hands of her father.
“At around 10 pm on January 4, the
victim turned up at Namthang police out post in a distress condition. She was
then taken to district hospital at Namchi for medical examination. During her
medical examination, she narrated before the attending doctor that on the
evening of January 4, around 8-9 pm, her father molested her nearby her house
after which she fled and proceeded to Namthang police out post.”
The girl further revealed that her
father had been molesting her since one year back. She does not know the exact
date and time but her father used to touch her private parts inappropriately whenever
there was no one at home, the police said.
Based on her complaint, an investigation
was launched and medical examinations were conducted for both the victim and
the accused at the district hospital.
The accused father has been arrested and
the case in under investigation, the police said.
The minor girl has been placed under the
care of the one shelter home duly informing District Child Protection
Officer.
A case under Section 09/10 of Protection
of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered against the accused
on Sunday.
