Former MLA SK Pradhan passes away

GANGTOK,: Former two-time MLA and veteran politician Sukumar Pradhan passed away Friday morning at a private nursing home in Siliguri. He had served as the MLA of Central Pendam constituency for two consecutive terms from 1985 to 1994 under Sikkim Sangram Parishad.
Pradhan later joined Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) and held various important posts in the party. He is survived by his wife and four daughters. He was from Duga, East Sikkim.
Chief Minister P.S. Golay has extended his condolences on the sad demise of Pradhan.
“A seasoned politician, his contributions towards the field of politics and the welfare of the state will always be remembered. I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and friends in this hour of grief and pray for the departed soul,” said the Chief Minister in his condolence message.
Former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has expressed his shock on the demise of Pradhan. It’s a sad day as we have lost a very good human being today, he said.
“My association with SK Pradhan began in 1985 when he was first elected as an MLA. During the time I got to know him in the 80s, I learned he was a very good legislator and a thorough gentleman. He was a leader dedicated to the people who did politics not for power or for the chair but for the interest of Sikkim and the Sikkimese people,” said Chamling.
The death of a good politician like SK Pradhan is a tremendous loss for Sikkim and his space will never be filled by anyone else, added Chamling. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
The SDF also mourned the passing away of Pradhan.
“His contribution to the people and the party in his public life has been highly appreciable and tested with time and challenges.  The party and the people will always remember and respect his contributions, commitment and sacrifices made during his life,” said the SDF.
“The SDF party extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and we pray that the departed soul rest in eternal peace. Prayers and two minutes silence were also observed in the SDF head office by the members of the party present, in respect and memory of the deceased,” said the SDF in its condolence message.
