# Saket Tragedy: Are Powerful Connections Shielding Those Responsible?

New Delhi, June 2026: The recent building collapse in Saket has raised serious concerns regarding accountability, regulatory oversight, and the enforcement of laws governing unauthorized constructions. As investigations continue, questions are being raised over whether all individuals associated with the ownership and development of the building are being subjected to equal scrutiny.

Reports indicate that action has been initiated against one of the alleged owners, Karamvir. However, concerns are being voiced by citizens and local stakeholders regarding the status of investigations involving the other reported owners, Satyavir Singh and Dharamvir Singh. Satyavir(local AAP Leader)is being shielded by his daughter, Sakshi Sejwal District Judge in Delhi and Avnish Parashar IRS -2014 batch(Son in Law posted in ED Delhi). The entire nexus is run under the aid and guidance of these officers who manage the police and MCD for them.

As per MCD records the collapsed property belongs to one Late Mangal Singh and the same is now being managed by his three sons, however FIR has been registered only against one of them. As per sources, these three brothers have multiple such undivided properties in the area, all of them being constructed by surpassing the bylaws.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by unauthorized constructions and the devastating consequences they can have on public safety. Families affected by the collapse, along with concerned residents, are seeking transparency regarding the ownership structure of the building, the approvals involved, and the actions taken by authorities prior to the incident.

Citizens are calling upon the concerned authorities to ensure a fair, impartial, and comprehensive investigation that examines the role of every individual connected to the project. The public interest demands that accountability be determined solely on the basis of facts, evidence, and the rule of law.

"The victims and their families deserve answers. Any investigation must be transparent and should leave no room for questions regarding selective action or unequal treatment," concerned citizens stated.

Residents have also raised concerns regarding certain properties allegedly linked to the owners, including structures reportedly situated on Khasra No. 264. According to local residents, portions of these multi-storey buildings, having 6 floors each were previously subjected to demolition action by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in 2025 and also on another earlier occasion for alleged building bylaw violations.

Concerned citizens have questioned how, despite such enforcement action and the reported booking of these properties for violations, repairs and further construction activities were allegedly carried out thereafter. Residents are seeking clarity from the concerned authorities regarding whether the properties complied with applicable regulations, whether any seals or restrictions imposed by civic authorities were violated, and what action has been taken to prevent unauthorized reconstruction.

Local stakeholders have urged authorities to investigate these allegations thoroughly, stating that any unauthorized construction poses serious risks not only to occupants and tenants but also to the wider public. They have further called for greater transparency and stricter enforcement to ensure that building safety norms are not compromised and that accountability is fixed wherever violations are found.

All these properties have been constructed by their family contractor, Manish Khatri, while few of their properties are still under construction in the locality by the same contractor. Some of the properties where they have undertaken unauthorized construction and are still enjoying rental income from these risky structures, despite properties being booked by the MCD are D 73, Khasra no. 389/215 (opposite D 83), Saidulajab; B 31, Khasra no. 187, Paryavarn Complex, B 32, Paryavarn Complex, Samadhi Plot, Saidulajab, New Delhi; a property adjacent B40/2, Paryaran Complex, New Delhi; to name a few.

The Saket building collapse serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for stronger enforcement against unauthorized constructions and for ensuring that all responsible parties, if found liable under the law, are held accountable.
