GANGTOK,: Rhenock MLA Bishnu Kumar Sharma would take oath on Friday as a cabinet minister of Sikkim government during the swearing-in ceremony at Raj Bhawan, Gangtok.
The proposal for Sharma’s elevation as a cabinet minister was unanimously passed during a SKM legislators’ meet at Mintokang, the Chief Minister’s official residence here, on Thursday.
Chief Minister PS Golay, also the SKM president, chaired the meeting attended by Speaker Arun Upreti, deputy speaker, ministers, MLAs, advisors, political secretary and press secretary, a SKM release informs.
One cabinet minister post was lying vacant following the resignation of former Health and Social Welfare minister Dr. MK Sharma earlier this year in February amidst the row over ‘foreigner’ tag on Sikkimese Nepali community. The Chief Minister had taken additional charge of these departments.
During the SKM legislators’ meeting, several matters related to the State and party were discussed.
The Chief Minister instructed all the legislators to devote maximum time to their respective constituencies and work for the welfare of their constituents. He further suggested organizing regular meetings at the ward level to promote the government’s schemes and endeavours at the grassroots level and extend assistance as per their requirement, the SKM release informs.
Golay also invited various departmental heads of the government and highlighted various proposed developmental programs and beneficiary schemes for the people of Sikkim. Discussions regarding the departments and constituencies were also held during the meeting.
The Chief Minister informed that shortly, a high-level delegation, including legislators will be traveling to New Delhi to communicate and submit the issues of Sikkim to the Government of India, the release informs.
