‘Mero Rukh, Mero Santati’ gains admirers in Arunachal Pradesh

GANGTOK,: Sikkim’s pioneering environmental initiative, ‘Mero Rukh, Mero Santati,’ garnered acclaim at the recently concluded 3rd Eaglenest Bird Festival in Arunachal Pradesh.

Sikkim environmentalist Nosang Limboo, who was invited as a resource person, shed light on the unique green initiative spearheaded by Chief Minister PS Golay. He shared insights into the programme that involves planting 108 trees for each new-born in the State.

The initiative aims to foster a deeper connection between parents, children and nature by commemorating childbirth through tree planting, thus instilling environmental consciousness from an early age.

During his address at the festival, Limboo not only emphasized the significance of ‘Mero Rukh, Mero Santati’ but also drew parallels between Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh in terms of biodiversity conservation and tourism potential, informs a press release.

Limboo also engaged with students, youth and members of local NGOs, encouraging them to actively participate in tree planting initiatives.

Expressing gratitude to the local Sherdukpen and Bugun communities for their embrace of nature preservation, Limboo highlighted the pivotal role of community involvement in driving large-scale environmental initiatives.

The festival held on December 15-16 at Rupa in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, was attended by Arunachal Pradesh Environment and Forest Minister Mama Natung as the chief guest, PCCF Jitendra Kumar, CCF Milo Tassar, renowned environmentalist Jadav Payeng, popularly known as the “Forest Man,” BJP ST Morcha national executive member Tseten Chombay, West Kameng deputy commissioner, Rupa ADC, SP, former minister D.K Thongdok and other dignitaries.
