RANGPO: NH 10, the lifeline of Sikkim and Kalimpong, will remain closed five hours on November 29 (Sunday) for vehicular movement to undertake restoration works at the troublesome spot of 29th Mile. The closed stretch of NH 10 is from Rambi to Teesta Bridge under Kalimpong district.
The 29th Mile area is facing frequent mudslides damaging the highway and disrupting vehicular movement. A meeting was held today by different departments under Kalimpong district regarding the issue, informed the Kalimpong police.
West Bengal Roads department which maintains the NH 10 portion of West Bengal, at the meeting, requested for closure of vehicular movement along the stretch to clear the debris and restore the damaged road.
The meeting decided that normal traffic movement will remain closed from 11 am to 4 pm on Sunday from Rambi to Teesta Bridge. Those who need to undertake the journey duringthe restriction period are directed to travel along the alternative routes.
The alternative routes are via Peshok-Jorebunglow-Kurseong-Sukna or Algarah-Lava-Gorubathan or Kalijhora-Panbu-Yangmakum-Pala-Kalimpong.
Since past several days, people commuting from Sikkim and Kalimpong to Siliguri have been facing hardships due to road disruptions at 29th Mile. Huge traffic jam is observed daily along the highway with vehicles stuck for hours.
