Chief
Minister Golay meets Mathur in Delhi, extends congratulations
GANGTOK, : Chief Minister P.S. Golay paid a
courtesy visit to the newly-appointed Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur, at
his residence in New Delhi today.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Chief
Minister Golay conveyed the collective congratulations and best wishes of the
people and the Government of Sikkim to Governor Mathur. “On behalf of the
people and the Government of Sikkim, I extend our heartiest congratulations,
warm welcome and best wishes to Shri Om Prakash Mathur Ji on his appointment as
the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim,” wrote the Chief Minister.
During the meeting, the newly-appointed
Governor and the Chief Minister discussed matters related to Sikkim's tourism,
agricultural and various other sectors. “The Hon’ble Governor assured us of his
valuable support and commitment to providing guidance and necessary assistance
to our state,” Chief Minister Golay stated, adding that the meeting was both
fruitful and reassuring.
Om Prakash Mathur, who was appointed the
new Governor of Sikkim by President Droupadi Murmu, is a veteran BJP leader
from Rajasthan who has also served as a Rajya Sabha MP. A national
vice-president of the BJP, Mathur has said he will retire from active politics
now after he has been appointed to the Constitutional post.
As Mathur takes over the Sikkim role,
outgoing Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has been given the role of Governor
in Assam. He will hold the additional charge of Manipur.
President Droupadi Murmu made five other
new appointments in the Governor’s role and reshuffled three.
Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Assam,
has been given the role in Punjab and also appointed Administrator of the Union
Territory of Chandigarh.
Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde has been
appointed Governor of Rajasthan, Jishnu Dev Varma of Telangana and Santosh
Kumar Gangwar of Jharkhand. Ramen Deka has been named Governor of Chhattisgarh
and C.H. Vijayashankar of Meghalaya.
C.P. Radhakrishnan, Jharkhand Governor
with additional charge of Telangana, has been appointed Governor of
Maharashtra.
“The above appointments
will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective
offices,” a Rashtrapati Bhawan press communique said.
