Press Club of Sikkim elects new executive committee for 2026–27

Samir Limboo elected as PCS president

Gangtok,: The Press Club of Sikkim (PCS) conducted its election for the 2026-27 executive committee on Sunday at the Press Club of Sikkim office in Gangtok. The election was held under the supervision of the Election Committee headed by chairperson Puran Tamang, with Usha Sharma, Amber Gurung and G.S. Limboo serving as members.

In the election for the post of president, Samir Hang Limboo secured 86 votes to defeat Dilli Ram Dulal, who polled 61 votes. Outgoing president Bhim Rawat completed his tenure after serving the club during the previous term.

For the post of working president, Sukraj Aaron Rai emerged victorious with 75 votes, narrowly defeating Ishwar Neopaney, who secured 71 votes.

Three vice president positions were filled by Bikash Chettri, who received 98 votes, Deepen Chettri with 90 votes, and Rabin Sharma with 81 votes.

For the three posts of joint secretary, Anand Oberoi secured the highest number of votes with 104, followed by N.B. Chettri with 98 votes and Nawdeep Sharma with 96 votes.

In the election for treasurer, Jagan Nath Sharma won with 84 votes, defeating Rudra Mani Sharma, who secured 62 votes.

The posts of general secretary, publicity secretary and assistant treasurer were filled unopposed by Homnath Dabari, Pankaj Dhungel and Suben Pradhan, respectively.

The newly elected executive committee will serve for the 2026-27 term and is expected to work towards strengthening the role of the Press Club of Sikkim in promoting professional journalism, safeguarding the interests of media personnel and fostering greater unity among journalists across the State, informs a press release from election committee chairperson Puran Tamang.

 

Political parties congratulate new PCS team

The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) has extends its warmest congratulations and best wishes to the newly elected executive committee of the Press Club of Sikkim.

On behalf of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha and the party president and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, heartfelt congratulations are conveyed to Samir Hang Limboo on his election as president of the Press Club of Sikkim, said the SKM in a media statement.

The party also extended its sincere greetings to the other elected executives of the PCS.

“A vibrant, responsible and independent press is one of the strongest pillars of democracy. Journalists and media institutions play an indispensable role in informing citizens, fostering public discourse, safeguarding democratic values and bridging the gap between the government and the people. The Press Club of Sikkim has consistently contributed towards strengthening professional journalism and promoting ethical reporting in the State,” said SKM spokesperson Yougan Tamang.

The SKM expressed its confidence that the newly elected team will continue to uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity, professionalism and public service.

“The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha values the contribution of the media fraternity in the socio-economic and democratic development of Sikkim and looks forward to continued constructive engagement with the Press Club of Sikkim in the collective interest of the people and the State. The party extends warm wishes to the entire Executive Committee for a successful tenure marked by unity, innovation and meaningful contributions to the advancement of journalism in Sikkim,” said the SKM spokesperson.

State BJP has also extended heartiest congratulations to the newly elected PCS executive committee.

“BJP Sikkim acknowledges the vital role of a free, fair and responsible press in a vibrant democracy. We are confident that under the new leadership, the Press Club of Sikkim will continue to uphold the highest standards of journalism, strengthen press freedom, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the media fraternity in the State,” said the State BJP in a media statement.

“We wish the new Executive Committee a successful, impactful and progressive tenure ahead. BJP Sikkim looks forward to constructive engagement with the media for the development of Sikkim and the welfare of its people,” said the State BJP.

Similarly, the Citizen Action Party (CAP) Sikkim has congratulated the newly elected PCS executive committee.

“The Citizen Action Party–Sikkim acknowledges the vital role played by the media fraternity in strengthening democracy, safeguarding public interest, and ensuring transparency and accountability in governance. A free, independent, and responsible press remains one of the strongest pillars of a democratic society,” said the CAP Sikkim in a press statement.

“We are confident that under the leadership of the newly elected team, the Press Club of Sikkim will continue to uphold the highest standards of ethical journalism, promote the welfare and professional development of journalists, and further strengthen the media landscape of our State,” said the CAP Sikkim.

“We wish the entire Executive Committee a successful, productive, and impactful tenure ahead. May your collective leadership continue to strengthen the institution, uphold press freedom, and serve as a strong voice for truth, justice, and the people of Sikkim,” added the CAP Sikkim.

The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) has also extended its heartiest congratulations to the newly elected PCS executive committee.

“As the umbrella organisation of journalists in Sikkim, the Press Club of Sikkim is an important institution that plays a vital role in strengthening the State's democratic values and principles. The SDF party is confident that the newly elected leadership will further reinforce democratic practices in the State, making them more effective, responsive and people-oriented,” said the SDF in a media statement.

The SDF expressed its confidence that under the new PCS executive committee’s leadership, journalism, as the fourth pillar of democracy, will continue to play a fearless, impartial and effective role in amplifying the voices of the people and contributing to the further strengthening of democracy.
