MUMBAI, (IPR): The Government of Sikkim takes immense pride in acknowledging the
recent national representation of acclaimed Sikkimese filmmaker Tribeny Rai, who was invited to serve as the moderator at the prestigious WORLD AUDIO VISUAL &
ENTERTAINMENT SUMMIT (WAVES 2025)–Connecting Creators, Connecting Countries
organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India,
and supported by Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC), being held at the Jio World
Convention Centre in Mumbai.
The
panel, titled ‘Challenges and Prospects of Cinema in North East India,’ brought
together some of the most distinguished cinematic voices from the north east
region, including Padma ShriJahnu Barua from Assam, Dominic Sangma from
Meghalaya, and Haobam Paban Kumar from Manipur, among other eminent participants,
further affirming Tribeny Rai’s growing stature as a visionary and creative
voice from Sikkim.
At
a juncture where authentic regional representation holds vital significance,
Tribeny Rai has, with quiet determination and unwavering commitment,
consistently amplified Sikkimese narratives through cinema grounded in the
region’s landscape, cultural identity, and lived experiences.
Her
presence on such significant platforms is not born of privilege or appointment,
but earned through merit, meaningful contribution, and national recognition.
Sikkim’s
creative landscape continues to thrive, led by sincere and driven artists like
Tribeni Rai, who has not only represented the State with dignity and nuance but
has also carved a place for Sikkim on the national and international cinematic
map through her films, curatorial efforts, and sustained engagement in serious
film discourse.
In
a State as culturally rich as Sikkim, representation must stem from genuine
action, contribution, and earned regard—not self-asserted or misplaced claims.
The
Government of Sikkim reiterates its steadfast commitment to uplifting authentic
artistic voices, and proudly recognizes Tribeny Rai as one of the foremost
torchbearers of Sikkimese and Northeast cinema today.
