GANGTOK, : Sikkim Suraksha Samiti (SSS) has urged the State government to initiate action on its memorandum against fake domicile and voter document holders in Sikkim.
Addressing media here on Tuesday, SSS president Madan Tamang informed that the Samiti had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, the chief secretary and concerned departments on December 23, 2021.
“However, no action has been taken on the memorandum submitted for the security of the Sikkimese. We want to remind the government and departments to start action on our petition so that future of Sikkimese is protected,” said the SSS president.
In its memorandum, the SSS has submitted details on persons allegedly holding fake domicile certificates, school certificate, voter IDs and other documents.
“We have disclosed the fake document holders and their documents have also been cancelled by the competent authority. We had also requested the government to terminate employees employed in the government furnishing fake documents from their posts, but the government, instead of terminating the services of such officials, have promoted them. We are here to fight for the rights of the Sikkimese as such people are taking away the opportunities of the locals. We strongly condemn such promotion being initiated,” said the SSS president.
Tamang warned that the Samiti will consider other approaches if the promotion extended to fake domicile holders in government employment are not withdrawn within 15 days. He maintained that both the ruling party and opposition political parties in Sikkim are not concerned about such fake domicile and voter card holders.
“During election, parties promise to safeguard Article 371F and rights of Sikkimese but after coming to power, no action is initiated even after we have submitted all required evidence against the fake document holders. If strong action is not taken now, the real Sikkimese would be marginalised in coming years,” said the Samiti president.
According to SSS, 35% of the total population in Sikkim are influx and holding fake documents and voter cards.
