GANGTOK,: Governor Lakshman Prasad
Acharya, accompanied by First Lady Kumud Devi, attended the celebration of Lord
Jagannath's Rath Yatra at Thakurbari Temple in Gangtok today.
Upon
arrival at Thakurbari Temple, the Governor participated in prayers and rituals
for the well-being, progress and health of Sikkim's residents. He was warmly
welcomed by the devotees, receiving traditional greetings in a spiritually
charged atmosphere, informs a press release.
The
highlight of the celebration was the grand procession of Lord Jagannath's Rath
Yatra along MG Marg, where a multitude of devotees joined in chanting "Jai
Jagannath" with utmost devotion. Emphasizing the Rath Yatra's role in
preserving and promoting India's cultural heritage, the Governor highlighted
its significance as a unifying force for the nation.
The
Rath Yatra, commencing on the second day of the waxing phase of Ashadh month
and concluding on the 11th day of the bright fortnight, holds deep mythological
and religious significance, reflecting the richness of Indian culture and
societal values.
Accompanying
the Governor were area MLA Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, members of the organizing
committee and devotees who actively participated in making the celebration a
success.
