Jiwan Rai’s debut fiction book released

GANGTOK,: ‘The Chase of the Past, A Flight into the Future’, a debut fiction work by author and columnist Jiwan Rai from Sikkim and published by Bukant was released during the 8th Annual Darjeeling District Book Fair at Sukna on Thursday.

The book was released by an eminent writer and critic, Dr. Gokul Sinha who also formally announced the launch of the book. Other authors who joined him to release the book were Sandip C Jain, Srijana Lunheem Subba, Saakal Ulysses Dewan and Raja Puniani, a press release informs.

The book contains five stories which explore the peculiar experiences of the people of Sikkim and Darjeeling during the time period between the mid-1900s and the early 2000s when the twin hills underwent a drastic socio-political change. The book will be launched in Gangtok soon.

The author also participated in a panel discussion on “Bridging English and Nepali Writing of Himalayan Region” which was moderated by Raja Puniani.

Jiwan Rai, a social commentator and political analyst has authored two non-fiction books, both of which were published by Penguin Random House, India. His last book, ‘Remember the Name Sikkim, India’s First Organic State’, was released in 2019.
