GANGTOK, : The 82nd birth anniversary of Padma Shri B.B. Muringla was observed on
Thursday at Limboo Bhavan, DPH Road in Gangtok. The event was organised by the
Sikkim Limboo Language Teachers’ Association in collaboration with Sikkim
Yakthung Sapsok Songjumbo and Yakthung Sapsok Saplon Chumbo Sukhim, a press release
informs.
Chief
guest Bal Muringla, associate professor at Sikkim University, highlighted the
importance of preserving indigenous languages and traditions. He acknowledged
the significant contributions of B.B. Muringla in the development of the Limboo
community and thanked the organisers for the successful execution of the
programme, the release mentions.
He
further commended the role of language teachers and the Sikkim Limboo Language
Teachers’ Association, referring to them as the backbone of language
development. He urged continued efforts in promoting cultural awareness and
suggested conducting workshops to further the cause of language
preservation.
The
programme featured various cultural performances, a tribute song, and the
release of the book ‘Sajum Sawa Sokpewa’. Commendation awards were also presented
to five Limboo language teachers for their dedication and service.
The
event concluded with a call to uphold the legacy of B.B. Muringla and to work
collectively for the preservation and promotion of the Limboo language and
heritage, said the organisers.
