NH-10 reopens ahead of schedule

DARJEELING,: A day after National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) announced closure of NH-10 till the morning of August 8, the highway was declared open for traffic from 6:30 pm of Thursday.

“The NHIDCL has completed the cutting at Sethijhora location with safety delineators. One-way traffic is being allowed by the police administration from Sethijhora location from 6:30 pm onwards today,” shared Kalimpong SP Shrihari Prasad.

The highway connecting Sikkim and Kalimpong to the plains was initially closed from August 3 till the evening of August 6. Another fresh order was issued on Wednesday, stating that highway would remain closed till 9 am of August 8 for the safety of vehicles plying on the NH section from Coronation Bridge to Chitrey.

The NH 10 had been closed after a portion of the highway collapsed at Sethijhora on August 3. People had been using different alternative routes to reach Siliguri after the highway was closed.
