NHDICL urged on NH 10’s upkeep as monsoon approaches

GANGTOK,: Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba on Wednesday met NHIDCL executive director Riten Kumar Singh in Delhi to discuss the NH 10 maintenance from Sevoke to Rangpo.

With the monsoon season approaching, the Sikkim MP emphasized to the NHIDCL head that ensuring smooth connectivity through NH 10 is a major challenge for Sikkim. He highlighted that now that NHIDCL has taken over the highway’s maintenance, the people of Sikkim have high expectations from the agency, a press release informs.

Indra Hang also stressed the importance of considering an alternative highway along the other side of the Teesta valley for long-term connectivity.

Earlier in the day, the Lok Sabha MP met MoRTH chief engineer Aditya Prakash and held detailed discussions regarding the upkeep of NH10, the release mentions.

NHIDCL had taken over the NH 10 Sevoke-Rangpo stretch last October from the West Bengal Public Works Department as demanded by the Sikkim government. The NH 10 – Sikkim’s lifeline – was closed for almost four months due to road subsidence, rising Teesta River water levels, and landslides during the 2024 monsoon from July to October.
