Non-functional Street Lights in Tadong Bazaar

We, the residents of the Tadong area—from Metro Tadong to Tadong Bazaar—would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to the persistent issue of non-functional street lights in our locality.

Despite having raised the matter with the Power Department long ago, we were informed that the responsibility for maintenance lies with Gangtok Smart City. However, upon contacting the Gangtok Smart City authorities, we were told that they are not in charge of street light maintenance. This lack of clarity and accountability has resulted in the street lights in our area remaining non-functional for over two years.

The absence of street lighting has severely impacted the daily lives of residents, particularly after dark. It poses serious safety concerns for pedestrians, especially the elderly and children. Being a stretch along the National Highway with heavy vehicular traffic, the lack of visibility has contributed to several accidents in recent times. Additionally, the darkness has led to an increase in thefts and damage to public property.

In light of these concerns, we earnestly request the Power Department to conduct an immediate field inspection and take the necessary steps for the repair and restoration of street lighting in the mentioned area.
