Sikkim@50 Golden Jubilee Conclave highlights State's economic potential

GANGTOK, (IPR): The ‘Sikkim@50 : Golden Jubilee Conclave-Celebrating 50 years of Sikkim's Statehood’ continued with the second session on the topic, ‘Invest in Sikkim’, organised by the Press Club of Sikkim (PCS) in collaboration with Information and Public Relations department.

The session was attended by Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba, Roads and Bridges minister Nar Bahadur Dahal, MLA cum Urban Development and Food & Civil Supplies departments’advisor Delay Namgyal Barfungpa.

The panellists for the second session were additional chief secretary (Tourism and Civil Aviation department)CS Rao, Commerce and Industries secretary Karma D Youtso, Balwa Group vice president Ajoy Balkrishna and journalist Jamal Shaikh.

During the discussion, investments in Sikkim were elaborated. The major focus was on tourism sector being one of the top ranked industries in Sikkim with major positive influence on transport, hotel, and retail business at the local level.

Furthermore, it was discussed that the State government has already developed a comprehensive system of ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and single window system to facilitate investment in the State and have joint ventures with local entrepreneurs to upscale the already existing local businesses.

The session included discussions on sustainable development, cultural and economic creativity.

The programme continued with the guests presenting mementoes to the distinguish panellists for their invaluable insights on investment in Sikkim.

The programme concluded with a valedictory session by MP Indra Hang Subba, who appreciated the Press Club of Sikkim and Information & Public Relations Department for organising the conclave which brought together different aspects of the State’s development.

Likewise, he also expressed gratitude to the distinguished panellists who joined the session from across the country, bringing diverse perspectives to the discussion. Appreciating the Press Club of Sikkim for consistently providing credible and reliable news coverage, he encouraged each and everyone for working on a grass root level, to fulfil creative and economic connectivity within the State.

The vote of thanks was proposed by PCS general secretary DR Dulal.

The programme also included cultural dance performance by Flickers Dance Group which added colours to the event.
