DoT directs telecom services in Sikkim to include Nepali Language
GANGTOK, : Soon, subscribers in Sikkim will start receiving telecom updates, alerts, and support in Nepali, as the Ministry of Communications has directed all service providers to include Nepali in their telecom-related communications across the State.The Ministry of Communications issued the directive on September 2 for inclusion of Nepali language in all telecom-related communications in the State of Sikkim.
The directive was issued by the Department of Telecommunications (Licensing Policy Division) under Ministry of Communications.
“…in order to ensure effective communication and improve user experience for telecom subscribers in the State of Sikkim, it has been decided that all licenses operating in the State shall henceforth include Nepali language in all telecom-related communications, including IVRS messages, SMS, and call centre support etc.”, reads the office memorandum issued by the Ministry.
The Department of Telecommunications under the Ministry has directed all the licenses to take necessary action to implement Nepali language inclusion in their networks and services in the State of Sikkim. The telecom operators and internet service providers are to furnish a compliance report to the concerned LSA office within 30 days.
With this directive, all telecom operators and internet service providers operating in the State of Sikkim are now required to incorporate Nepali in interactive voice response systems (IVRS), SMS alerts, and call centre services, among others.
