GANGTOK,: Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, who joined Sikkim Krantikari Morcha earlier this month, merged his Sikkim National People’s Party with the ruling SKM on Tuesday.
Delay Namgyal along with SNPP executive members and party supporters officially merged with SKM at Samman Bhawan in Gangtok in the presence of SKM president and Chief Minister P.S. Golay.
Delay Namgyal said the SNPP decided to merge with the SKM as the two parties shared similar political ideology. “Our party’s major agendas were clean drinking water, health care, free medicines and free electricity, which are being facilitated by the current government in the best possible manner. We share similar ideology, and we love our State and the people,” Delay Namgyal added.
Golay welcomed Delay Namgyal and SNPP supporters into his party’s fold, saying he is willing to share the responsibilities of the party with Delay Namgyal.
“I am really happy that the president of SNPP, Delay Namgyal Barfungpa along with his party members has officially joined SKM party. Delay Namgyal Barfungpa is a man of principle who has never compromised in all circumstances when it comes to Sikkim and Sikkimese. It might be due to the activities, works that our party has been carrying out that he has chosen our party. SNPP, formed in 2008, always raised voice for the people during previous government.”
Delay Namgyal along with Biraj Adhikari had founded SNPP in 2008. After Adhikari joined Hamro Sikkim Party in 2018, Delay Namgyal was elected president of SNPP.
“I am really happy that he (Delay Namgyal) has joined the SKM party as he is one such person with whom I can share the responsibilities of the party,” stated Golay.
He maintained that the ideology and principles of SNPP will be respected and carried forward by SKM party.
Also on the occasion, a large number of people including panchayats from different constituencies of the State joined the SKM.
