GEYZING: Accusing the former SDF government of betraying the Limboo and Tamang communities of the State, LokSabha MP Indra Hang Subba expressed that Limboo-Tamang Assembly seat reservation would have been a reality a long ago had the SDF government worked sincerely on the issue.
“SDF committed a historical and political blunder by denying the constitutional right of seat reservation to Limboo Tamang communities. The Pawan Chamling-led government was not committed to resolve the issue,” he said.
Addressing the 116thbirth anniversary celebration of Limboo scholar Iman Singh Chemjong at Geyzing girls senior secondary school here today, the LokSabha member from SKM maintained that he would work diligently to find out a solution in relation to long pending Limboo-Tamang seat reservation issue.
“I, as a member of parliament, will remain a voice of the Sikkimese people, and raising and defending the relevant issues pertaining to Sikkim is my responsibility,” saidSubba.
He further stated that the present SKM government is working on LT seat reservation sincerely and the State government has petitioned the Centre government time and again.
Subba, who was a special guest at the event, also pressed for collective participation of all the communities for the State building mission. He suggested Limboo community to not keep their literary activities confined within the community and called for broadening the literary horizons. He shared that in order to develop and uplift the literature of any community, the young generations should learn from older generation.
Chief guest and PHE minister Bhim Hang Subba maintained that the SKM government has created a secular environment in the State where the culture of politicizing community-based events has ceased. He shared that all the communities should be given equal opportunities for protection and preservation of their cultures, literatures and languages.
The main highlight of the event was presentation of Iman Singh Chemjong Literary Award to Man Bahadur Hangam from Assam’s Tinsukia, recognizing his works on Limboo literature. Similarly, the Special Chemjong Award was conferred to TezmanNembang from Sikkim.
Competitions on numerous scholastic activities such as story writing, essay and poems were also included at the eventorganized by YakthungSapsokSaplonChumbhoSukhim (YSSCS), a Limboo literary publication association.
YSSCS president D.S. Limboo, presenting the life history of late Iman Singh Chemjong, informed that Chemjong,as a pioneer of Limboo literature, worked for preservation and development of Limboo language and literature. He added that as a historian, linguist, lexicographer, folklorist and philosopher, Iman Singh Chemjong devoted his entire life to studying and documenting various facets of Limboo culture and traditions.
