GANGTOK,: Gokulam FC Kerala overcame Sudeva FC Delhi 2-1 in a closely contested match on Friday to reach the semi-finals of the ongoing 42nd Governor’s Gold Cup football tournament at Paljor Stadium here.

After a goalless first half, Gokulam FC took the lead in the 63rd minute when substitute striker Victor capitalised on a defensive error to score.

Sudeva FC responded almost immediately, with SuantakVoiphei tapping home from close range in the 66th minute following a perfect cross from winger Yash.

However, another defensive mistake by Sudeva FC in their own half proved costly. The ball fell to Victor, who found himself with ample space and time before smashing home the winning goal in the 72nd minute.

Sudeva FC came close to finding the equaliser on a couple of occasions, but could not find a way past their opponents.

Victor was named Man of the Match for his two goals.

The second quarter-final will be played under floodlights on Saturday, with local side Singling SC taking on Northeast United FC.

Singling SC have already played a match to reach the quarter-final stage, while Northeast United FC received a direct entry into the last eight.
