GANGTOK, :Chief Minister P.S. Golay today inaugurated two
major public infrastructure projects in Mangan district. These include the
newly constructed building of district hospital and upgraded public ground at
Mangan, alongside the foundation stone laying of Healing Garden-cum-Wellness
Park.
Addressing a public event at ZillaBhawan in
Mangan, the Chief Minister congratulated the people of Mangandistrict on the new
infrastructures.
He expressed his satisfaction in seeing the Mangan
district hospital complete, ready to serve the people. He said the newdistrict
hospital, with its advanced medical facilities, will ensure better healthcare
access and urged public to take full advantage of the hospital’s services.
He assured that the government is committed to
addressing the further needs of the hospital including the provision of doctor
and nurse quarters, as well as private rooms.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to
healthcare, the Chief Minister informed that every district in Sikkim is now
equipped with dialysis centres. He also spoke about the philanthropic
initiatives under GaribJankalyanPrakosta, a non-profit organisation providing
medical assistance to the underprivileged and the ‘AmaKo Goad’
Su-SwasthyaNiwas, a free rental health-logistics support facility.
Speaking on the ongoingSewaPakhwada, a nationwide
initiative from September 17 to October 2, the Chief Minister spoke about its
focus on cleanliness, health camps, tree plantation and promoting local
products. He urged everyone to actively participate in these activities to
promote awareness and foster a culture of self-reliance and community well-being.
In his concluding remarks, the Chief Minister
expressed his gratitude to the Central government for its decision to reduce
GST rates. He also urged leaders and citizens of Mangan district to work
collectively as a team to bring governance to the doorstep of the people.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister extended
financial support under Chief Minister’s Discretionary Grant to various
organizations, including Rs. 1,00,000
for the construction of an amphitheatre at PM Shri Mangan Senior Secondary
School, Rs. 5,00,000 for renovation of Tse
Chu Lhakang and assistance toLabrangDhupdeyChampoTshokpa Association for the annual RinzingSokdrupDrupchen Puja.
The event also included the screening of two
videos –one tracing the journey of Mangan district hospital and another
presenting the concept of the Healing Garden-cum-Wellness Park. The programme
saw the launch of several digital initiatives for STNM Hospital including an online
portal for complaint redressal and a complaint management system.
Ministers PintsoNamgyalLepcha and SamdupLepcha,
and MLA ThenlayTsheringBhutia, in their addresses, expressed their gratitude
towards the Chief Minister for his vision and commitment to the district’s
development. They highlighted the significant strides being made in healthcare,
infrastructure and other essential services.
Heath minister G.T. Dhungel stated that the
completion of the hospital is yet another testimony of the vision and
commitment of the government under the leadership of the Chief Minister. He
also outlined requirements such as specialist doctors, dialysis technicians,
doctor/nurse quarters, storage, and an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) to
further strengthening healthcare services.
Earlier, district collector Anant Jain highlighted
Mangan’s recent achievements including securing the cleanest district award for
three consecutive years, and 10 Gram Panchayats under Mangan being declared
TB-free. He thanked the Chief Minister for his continuous support in driving
development in the region.
The newly inaugurated Mangandistrict hospital, the
only major healthcare facility for North Sikkim, has a plinth area 59,808 sqft
across four floors. It serves five public health sub-centres, nearly half of
the district's population, a large migratory workforce, and both domestic and
international tourists.
The ground floor houses multiple OPDs, including
general medicine, surgery, ENT, dental and paediatrics, along with diagnostic
facilities like CT scan, X-ray and ultrasound. The first floor is dedicated to
paediatrics, gynaecology and the laboratory, while the second floor accommodates
surgery, orthopaedics and general medicine wards. The top floor features a
conference hall, canteen and common areas.
Designed to be seismically resilient, the hospital
enhances healthcare access and optimises patient flow. After the inauguration, the
Chief Minister toured the facility, visiting the dialysis and emergency units.
He interacted with medical staff, reviewed equipment, and emphasized
maintaining high cleanliness standards and 24x7 service for
the growing population.
