SILIGURI,: After an explosion scene on Coronation Bridge, which went viral on social media, drew the wrath of netizens and general public, police on Thursday night arrested line producer of the web series and removed officer-in-charge of Sevoke police outpost.
Kalimpong SP Aparajita Rai said the line producer of web series and owner of Siliguri-based production house, Chaitali Banerjee, was arrested on multiple charges including blocking of national highway.
The crew of the web series had closed the bridge for about an hour to film an explosion scene involving a blown up vehicle.
Likewise, Darjeeling police removed Sevoke police OC Dalim Adhikary from duty and appointed senior police officer Tapan Das as the new in-charge of the outpost.
On Thursday, top cops from Darjeeling and Kalimpong, and North Bengal IG Devendra Prakash Singh visited the bridge.
Singh said that no permission was sought for the shooting of the web series in Sevoke area.
Later in the evening, crew members were summoned to Sevoke police outpost and after interrogation Chaitali Banerjee was arrested and taken to Kalimpong police station. On Friday morning, Banerjee was produced at Kalimpong district court.
Dewan Lepcha, divisional fire officer, West Bengal Fire & Emergency Services, also visited Coronation Bridge to inspect if any damages have been caused to the heritage bridge after the scene of explosion.
Lepcha said that West Bengal Fire and Emergency Service office was not intimated of the shooting.
Usually during shooting, the crew members inform the Fire department and ask for a fire vehicle standby for emergencies but this time it was not done, he added.
