GANGTOK,: G.M.Limboo, a
headmaster at Government Secondary School, Rimbik, has been inspiring students
and youngsters to adopt fitness and discipline through his active participation
in long-distance running events.
The 44-year-old recently secured fourth position
in the 50-km JBG Goechala Trail Run, considered one of the toughest ultra-trail
runs in the region, completing the race in 10 hours, 36 minutes and 50 seconds.
Limboo said his aim was not to gain fame but to
motivate students and youth to take up athletics and maintain a healthy
lifestyle.
“My main motive is to motivate students at all
levels and inspire youngsters to take up athletics,” he said.
“My intention is not to become famous, but to
encourage young lads and students to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle,” he
added.
Over the past year, Limboo has participated in
several running events across Sikkim and neighbouring regions, balancing his
sporting activities with his responsibilities as an educator.
His participation includes Kurseong Winter Run
2025, Dragon Run 1.0, Compassion Run Darjeeling 2025, the 42-km run organised
during Sikkim’s Statehood golden jubilee celebrations and Thimphu Global Peace
Run (43 km).
He has also taken part in Darap 13K Trail Run,
Chakung 21K Run, Maenamla Trail Run (18K), Yuksom–Gerethang 14-km marathon,
Chewavanjyang Trail Run, Kalimpong United Run 2026 and Run for Khecheopalri
Lake.
