GANGTOK, :The
annual general meeting (AGM) of the Journalists Union of Sikkim (JUS) on Sunday
dissolved its outgoing executive committee after the completion of its two-year
tenure and initiated the process for electing a new seven-member panel.
The
meeting, held at the JUS office here under the chairmanship of JUS president
Sujal Pradhan, was attended by members of the union.
Outgoing
general secretary N.B. Ghimirey presented a report on the activities and
achievements of the executive committee during its two-year tenure, while
treasurer Manita Tamang placed the financial report.
Addressing
the gathering, Pradhan announced that the tenure of the present executive
committee had officially ended and proposed its dissolution. The proposal was
unanimously approved by the members.
The
general body also constituted an election committee to conduct the election for
the new executive committee.
Senior
journalist Nita Nirash was appointed chairperson of the election committee and
authorised to nominate two more members. The committee has been empowered to
announce the election schedule and oversee the entire election process.
The
outgoing treasurer will hand over the complete membership records, including
details of members who have renewed and those who have not renewed their
memberships, to the election committee, according to a resolution adopted at
the meeting.
The
general body further resolved that members who have not paid their monthly
membership fees must clear their dues within the deadline to be fixed by the
election committee. Those failing to do so will have their memberships
cancelled and will not be eligible to vote in the election.
The election will be held to constitute a seven-member executive committee, the resolutions adopted at the AGM said.
