Man held for murder of his son in Sombaria

GANGTOK,: The Sombaria Police Station has achieved significant progress in the investigation of a blind murder case registered on May 2 under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

On May 1, a domestic altercation took place between Man Bahadur Subba (accused) and his son, Late Tika Hang Subba (deceased), residents of Lower Thambong, Sombaria, Soreng district.

According to Soreng police, the altercation escalated into violence, during which the accused allegedly assaulted his son with a sharp-edged weapon (tawal/hatchet), resulting in his death. The deceased was found the following morning inside his bedroom by his younger brother in a pool of blood, who resides in close proximity.

At the initial stage of the investigation, the accused denied involvement and withheld information regarding the commission of the offence and the whereabouts of the weapon. The case posed significant challenges due to the absence of eyewitnesses and lack of electronic evidence, it was informed.

“However, based on circumstantial evidence and scientific examination of the crime scene by a team of forensic experts, including fingerprint specialists and photographers, the accused was detained on May 2 and subsequently placed under arrest,” said Soreng SP Nahkul Pradhan.

During sustained and systematic interrogation, the accused confessed to the commission of the offence and provided information leading to the recovery of the weapon of offence, said the SP. The tawal (hatchet) was recovered and seized in strict compliance with legal procedures, he added.

The investigation is being conducted by PI Sonam Topgay Bhutia, SHO, Sombaria Police Station, whose diligence and professionalism have been instrumental in the prompt detection of this otherwise blind murder case.

Soreng District Police reiterates its commitment to conducting a fair, impartial, and legally robust investigation to deliver justice to the victim, said Pradhan.
