Nepal athletes dominate in Epic Himalayan Duathlon

NAMCHI,: As many as 68 individuals participated in the Epic Himalayan Duathlon held under Nasha Mukth Bharat Abhiyan, in Namchi today. Organized by Namchi district administration in partnership with Ride Sikkim, Hub Outdoor, Mountain Bulls and Sherpa and Sons the event is first such organised in Sikkim.

The duathlon was flagged off from Bhaichung Stadium by Building and Housing department chairman Tashi Dorjee Tamang. Also present amongst others were district collector M. Bharani Kumar, former national football player Basant Yonzon, Indian Super League player Nim Dorjee Tamang and officials.

The sporting event was open for 18 years and above for both men and women participants.

In women’s category, Indra Kala Nembang and Manju Kumari Kharga from Nepal stood first and second respectively, while Sabitri Rai from Sikkim secured the third position.

Similarly in men's category, Man Bahadur Thapa, Basant Tharu and Nawraj Neupane, all from Nepal, secured the first, second and third position respectively.

Sports joint director Tshering Ongmu thanked the participants and the organizers for making the event a success.

District collector M. Bharani Kumar, in his brief address, highlighted the motive of conducting Epic Himalayan Duathlon under Nasha Mukth Bharat Abhiyan in Namchi. He urged the participants to join hands in spreading the message and awareness on Nasha Mukth Bharat Abhiyan, and make their contribution by helping in eradicating this social vice.

The participants were presented with medals, and the top three winners in the men's and women's category were presented with cash prizes and trophies.
