The
Sikkim Armed Police (SAP) veterans’ football team has won the international
veterans football tournament held at Gairkata, Jalipaiguri in North Bengal,
marking a major accomplishment for Sikkim football.
In
the final played on Sunday, the SAP veterans defeated the Kolkata veterans in a
thrilling penalty shootout. The Sikkim team had earlier defeated the veterans’
football team from Maharashtra in the semi-final and the Nagaland team in the
first match.

from SAP veterans’ football team won the highest scorer award while teammate
JasmanSubba was adjudged as the ‘best goalkeeper’ of the tournament.
Teams
from Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh along with clubs from Kolkata, Maharashtra,
Nagaland, Assam, Dooars and Siliguri had taken part in this two-day tournament
organised by Greenland Dooars Veterans’ Club. It is for the first time that a
Sikkim team has won this international veterans football tournament, it was
informed.
