Singpheng primary school hosts two-day education fest

GEYZING,: The two-day education fest organised by Singpheng government primary school concluded on Tuesday.

The concluding day had area MLA and minister Bhim Hang Subba along with other dignitaries.

The fest aimed to promote the school and encourage students to participate in educational, scholastic and sporting activities. Guardians and locals of Singpheng actively contributed to the event, which also served as a platform to sensitize the locals on the issue of dwindling student enrollment in government schools, the need for local support and a sense of ownership for the growth and development of government-run educational institutions.

School headmaster Phigu Tshering Bhutia shared that the fest was organized to ensure participation of students in educational activities, blending academic and practical learning. He emphasized the school’s commitment to providing quality education and enhancing student enrollment, while appealing for continued support and faith from the local community.

Bhutia expressed gratitude for the appreciation received from the public, social entities and the Education department, and announced plans to make the fest an annual event.

Education assistant director Rajen Tamang, lauded the initiative, calling it progressive and vital for fostering a positive educational atmosphere among students, teachers and parents. He expressed concern over the closure of several primary schools in the State due to low enrollment, stressing the importance of local faith and support in sustaining government-run institutions.

In his address, minister Bhim Hang Subba commended Singpheng primary school for organizing the educational fest, describing it as a meaningful and productive initiative. He highlighted the importance of such events in nurturing students’ skills and instilling a sense of competitiveness, ultimately paving the way for brighter futures.

Subba also discussed the State government’s efforts to improve the education sector and shared both infrastructural development and other measures aimed at holistic growth. While acknowledging the concern over school closures due to low enrollment, he stated that merging smaller institutions with nearby schools was a practical solution to address financial and administrative challenges. He assured that affected students would be accommodated in nearby schools to ensure continued education.
