GEYZING, : The famous Singshore Bridge in West Sikkim, which is being transformed into a glass deck skywalk, will feature an additional attraction - bungee jumping.

The bungee jumping facility, likely to be set up alongside the glass deck skywalk, aims to boost adventure tourism in the region. This addition is part of a broader initiative to develop adventure tourism infrastructure, including the establishment of a paragliding point at Uttarey.

The Singshore Bridge, a suspension bridge spanning Singshore Khola, is being developed as a glass skywalk with the support of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER). The project has been under development since last year and promises to attract both tourists and thrill-seekers to the area.

On Sunday, a team comprising area MLA Sudesh Kumar Limboo, bungee experts from Nepal, Sujan Maharjan and Bhola Shrestha, and Tourism deputy director Manoj Chettri visited the bridge and assessed the feasibility of bungee jumping. The visiting experts from Nepal, after the assessment, said the site has a potential to be developed as a bungee jumping point.

The trial for bungee jumping by the experts will be conducted this month during the national rural homestay owners’ meet being held at Uttarey from March 22 to 24. It may be mentioned here that a successful bungee jumping trial at Singshore Bridge was conducted in the past as well. However, no further initiative was taken to develop and promote bungee jumping at Singshore Bridge site.

MLA Sudesh Kumar Limboo underlined that with the inclusion of adventure tourism activities such as paragliding and bungee jumping, the tourism potential of Maneybung-Dentam constituency would get a needed enhancement. He maintained that the glass deck skywalk on Singshore Bridge along with bungee jumping facilities for the tourists would ensure greater inflow of tourists in the region.

“Glass deck skywalk and bungee jumping adventure at the same place will be a unique attraction for the visitors,” he said.

Subba also stressed the need of initiating a larger tourism initiative, encouraging the involvement and active participationof the youth in the sector to ensure a stable way of livelihood through tourism. He further shared plans of transforming Maneybung-Dentam constituency as a tourism hub.
