GANGTOK, : With the vision of making Sikkim a
‘kuccha house-free State’ by 2027, Chief Minister PS Golay has announced that
the 11,000 houses currently under construction through the Sikkim Garib Awas
Yojana (SGAY) will be completed by 2027.
“According to the demands and estimates
conducted prior to the elections, 11,000 allotments were issued under the SGAY,
the first fully state-sponsored urban housing scheme designed by the Government
of Sikkim to make homeownership accessible to thousands of homeless families
who do not have a home of their own in the State. As promised, these 11,000
houses will be completed and handed over to the beneficiaries by 2027,” said
the Chief Minister at an event held at Samman Bhawan today.
He added that after 2027, as families
grow, the demand for housing under SGAY will increase, and the State government
will continue working to address those needs.
During the event, the Chief Minister
also distributed cheques and sanction letters to around 150 beneficiaries under
the Chief Minister’s Discretionary Grant (CMDG) and the Chief Minister’s
Education Assistance Scheme (CMEAS).
The beneficiaries included
representatives from religious institutions (temples, monasteries, and
churches), educational institutions, NGOs, clubs, and medical patients, among
others.
“Our government remains firmly committed
to supporting underprivileged students, individuals, and organizations through
the CMDG and CMEAS. In line with this commitment, I had the privilege of
distributing financial assistance to around 150 beneficiaries today. Through
these and other state-led initiatives, we reaffirm our dedication to uplifting
those in need, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of people across
our communities,” expressed CM Golay.
Other schemes highlighted at the event
included the Chief Minister’s Medical Assistance Scheme, the Chief Minister’s
Self Employment Scheme, and the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
“The State government has been providing
funds to verified beneficiaries in a transparent manner. These funds are
disbursed as cheques, not in cash, to ensure accountability. The purpose is to
support individuals who are capable and motivated but financially
underprivileged. We urge beneficiaries to utilize these funds to improve their
quality of life,” he said.
Golay also announced that GI roofing
sheets will be distributed to the remaining beneficiaries on July 19 at every
Block Administrative Centre (BAC) across Sikkim, in the presence of respective
MLAs and officials.
The Chief Minister also mourned the
passing of Late Sanu Lama, expressing his condolences to the bereaved family.
He informed that the funeral will be held on July 18 with full State
honours.
