Yangang to showcase tourism potential with International Youth Conclave

GANGTOK,: To commemorate Sikkim’s 50 years of Statehood, Yangang in South Sikkim is scheduled to host the first edition of the ‘International Youth Conclave for Tourism Development’ at Yangang Helipad from April 12-15.

The conclave is set to be a significant initiative that will align with the 50 years of Sikkim’s Statehood celebrations, along with the vision of “Sunaulo, Samriddha ani Samartha Sikkim”, as envisioned by Chief Minister PS Golay.

The first edition of the ‘International Youth Conclave for Tourism Development’ will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister, the organisers informed to the media here on Monday.

With Yangang MLA and Sikkim Legislative Assembly deputy Speaker Raj Kumari Thapa as the chief patron, the three-day conclave is being organized by the Yangang Tourism Development Committee (YTDC), with support from the Tourism department, Sikkim Inspires, and other stakeholders.

“With participants from across India (17 States and 3 Union Territories), Bhutan, Iran and Nepal, this landmark event will bring together youth leaders, tourism experts and global delegates to explore the future of tourism development and its role in shaping the region’s growth. Government bodies, key stakeholders, and the Yangang Tourism Development Committee (YTDC) are preparing to welcome participants from across India and beyond. Beautification efforts have already begun, enhancing Yangang’s appeal as a promising tourism destination,” expressed Raj Kumari Thapa at the press meet.

Emphasizing on the significance of the conclave in positioning Yangang as a key player in Sikkim’s tourism landscape, the deputy Speaker said, “Yangang is emerging as a major destination, and this conclave is a step toward unlocking its full potential. With sustainable tourism at the heart of our efforts, we are committed to creating an ecosystem where local communities thrive alongside growing tourism opportunities.”

The conclave will highlight Sikkim’s commitment to sustainable tourism and cultural preservation, showcasing its remarkable journey over the past five decades.

Recent initiatives by Chief Minister PS Golay, i.e. the Dhapper to Bhaleydhunga Ropeway, the Skywalk development, and eco-tourism programs, have significantly contributed to the region’s growing appeal. Under the central theme, “Celebrating Sikkim’s 50 Years of Statehood”, the conclave will provide an in-depth look into the State’s tourism evolution, opportunities, and challenges. It will also spotlight emerging destinations like Yangang, positioning them for future growth through targeted tourism infrastructure projects supported by the Ministry of Tourism, it was informed.

The deputy Speaker stressed on the CM Golay-led government’s vision for sustainable tourism. The conclave will highlight Sikkim’s commitment to sustainable tourism and cultural preservation, showcasing its remarkable journey over the past five decades, she said.

YTDC general secretary Rinzing Dorjee Bhutia informed that the conclave will have engaging activities and expert-led discussions and will feature a dynamic lineup of activities including heritage walks & cultural rallies, panel discussions & interactive sessions with tourism experts, on-site talks by industry professionals, and cultural exchange programs & local tourism excursions. Delegates will engage in discussions on sustainable tourism strategies, focusing on preserving local culture, heritage, and environmental integrity while fostering economic growth.

As Sikkim celebrates five decades of progress within the great nation of Bharat, this conclave stands as a testament to its commitment to innovation, community-driven tourism, and global collaboration, he said.

The deputy Speaker shared that the State government aims on making the ‘International Youth Conclave for Tourism Development’ a calendar event.

Yangang Tourism Development Committee has played a crucial role in promoting sustainable tourism and local economic growth since its establishment in 2008.
