PAKYONG,: Pakyong district today issued a first set of domicile certificates since becoming a district. Around 25 citizens received the Certificate of Identification through the hands of MLAs, DC and ADC. These new CoI holders were carefully verified by various line departments of the newly formed district of Pakyong.
In Sikkim, the Certificate of Identification (CoI), is an important legal document for various purposes, especially to claim the rights and benefits of the jurisdiction he/she resides in and for official work such as school/college admission, applying for government jobs and to get local preferences in the State. The CoI also allows its holders to avail services of various government schemes, scholarship and for application of ration card in the State.
Out of 84 CoI applications received by Pakyong Land Revenue and Disaster Management department from Gangtok district office, 68 COI are ready for distribution and 16 are under process. Today, 25 individuals, five each from Rhenock, Chujachen, Gnathang-Machong, Namchaybong and West Pandam constituency, were given the CoI.
The new CoI holders expressed gratitude towards the area MLAs and the DC. It was informed that the Land Revenue and Disaster Management department of Pakyong will be issuing CoIs fullfledgedly from May 17.
ADC Anupa Tamling informed that the Land Revenue and Disaster Management department will be coordinating with the National Information Centre (NIC) to inform general public about the processing of their files regarding COI through SMSes. Once they submit their files, they do not have to visit office frequently as they will be updated through messages, she added.
District collector Tashi Chophel informed that the basic objective of forming new district was to benefit of public of Pakyong. “Earlier, Pakyong was under east district and people from far flung areas like Padamchen and Chochen Pheri had to travel for 2-3 hours to reach Gangtok and if we include traffic jams, it would take more than five hours. And, if they didn't meet their concerned officers than their whole day would be wasted. Now, the district office is in their area and their works will be done quickly.”
Namcheybong MLA Em Prashad Sharma and Rhenock MLA Bishnu Kumar Khatiwara expressed their gratefulness to Chief Minister for converting Pakyong into district.
