16 stolen two-wheelers recovered, one held

DARJEELING,: Darjeeling police have recovered 16 two-wheelers that were stolen from different parts of the hills besides arresting prime accused Ashim Bhowmick (36) of Mathabhanga, Coochbehar.

A series of complaints had been made in October and November last year over two-wheelers going missing in various parts of Darjeeling hills. Police took up the investigation and deployed teams to conduct checks at different places.

Darjeeling SP Praween Praskash told media: “On December 27, a team was doing a nakka at Pankhabari road in Kurseong. Around 2:30 am in the morning, a person was coming in a scooty and when our team tried to stop him, he started running. It was later revealed that he was coming from Kurseong after stealing the two-wheeler. He was arrested there. Upon further interrogation, we came to know that he had stolen around 16 bikes from Darjeeling area and all those stolen bikes have been recovered.”

Among the 16 two-wheelers, 13 were stolen from Kurseong.

According to the SP, accused Bhowmick was working with another accomplice to sell the stolen bikes.
